Press release
The Media Ownership Authority gives Broadcast Norge an advance clearance to acquire all the shares of TVNorge. TVNorge is a TV channel with a market share of about 10 percent. The channel is distributed by satellite, cable and air covering 88.9 percent of the population in
Today Broadcast Norge owns just over 50 per cent of the shares and has made an agreement with the other owner, TV 2, giving Broadcast Norway control over all the shares. Broadcast Norge is a holding company for SBS Broadcasting S.A.
The reason for the decision is that neither Broadcast Norge or SBS will gain a significant ownership position in the Norwegian media marked or in the Norwegian TV market. The Media Ownership Authority therefore concludes that the acquisition is not contrary to the purpose of the Media Ownership Act.
Pursuant to the Media Ownership Act, a person may request advance clearance for an acquisition prior to concluding a final agreement. The parties to such an agreement may request an assurance within thirty days to the effect that no intervention will be made under the Media Ownership Act.
The Authority’s decision (in Norwegian) can be found on the Internet under www.eierskapstilsynet.no.
